Company HistoryOur company has been in the palapa and thatching business since 1986. As licensed contractors servicing restaurants, zoos, casinos and homeowners in California, Arizona and Nevada, we touched a nerve in the Southwest, helping to satisfy the desire held by many to bring home a piece of the tropics. Tropical Shade has worked with some of Nevada's most famous casinos and under membership of the American Zoological Association, has thatched major theme park and zoo projects.
Located in San Diego, California, and Las Vegas, Nevada, we maintain our showrooms and we continue to provide thatching services, as well as sell a variety of related materials such as bamboo, wall coverings, fencing, matting, lighting and more.
Through the years we have designed different thatched structures (commonly
referred to as palapas, grass huts or cabanas) and continue to offer installation
services in parts of Southern California and Nevada. In response to requests
from individuals who wanted to build their own palpas, in 1998 we introduced
our palapa kits, complete with pre-woven thatch, all parts and installation
instructions. The many thank you's from satisfied customers tells us that
